Englische Witze – Was ist typisch britischer Humor?

Natürlich ist jeder Mensch unterschiedlich und hat seinen eigenen Humor. Generell ist jedoch festzuhalten, dass die Briten oft ironische Bemerkungen und Sprüche machen – sowohl allgemein als auch selbstironisch.

Während die Briten einen Spruch nach dem anderen machen, sind die Amerikaner wiederum eher vorsichtig damit. Anders als die vielleicht „rough“ (also grob) wirkenden Witze der Briten, in denen häufig eine gute Portion an Sarkasmus mitschwingt, werden die Witze der Amerikaner meist mit einem „just kiddin‘“ (also „Ist nur Spaß!“) begleitet, sodass sich auch ja keiner angegriffen fühlt.

Insgesamt ist der amerikanische Humor mehr basierend auf Situationskomik (slapstick) und sowohl direkter als auch offensichtlicher. Britische Witze sind – wie bereits erwähnt – oft sehr sarkastisch und ironisch und nicht immer für jeden witzig bzw. verständlich. Hier ein paar typische Beispiele:

Selbstironie

Only in England… we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive and put our junk in the garage.
Only in England… a pizza can get to your house faster than an ambulance.
Only in England… supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

They say an Englishman laughs three times at a joke. The first time when everybody gets it, the second a week later when he thinks he gets it, the third time a month later when somebody explains it to him.

Wortspiele

An Englishman went into a hardware store and asked to buy a sink.
“Would you like one with a plug?” asked the assistant.
“Don’t tell me they’ve gone electric…,” said the Englishman.

Erklärung:
(“Plug” bedeutet im Englischen sowohl Stecker als auch Stöpsel)

A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named „Amal.“ The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him „Juan“. Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his mum. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Amal. Her husband responds, „But they are twins. If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.“

Erklärung:
(Falls es nicht klick macht: “But they are twins. If you’ve seen ONE, you’ve seen ‘EM ALL.”)

Sarkasmus-Sprüche

This isn’t an office, it’s hell with fluorescent lighting.

Ohhh, let me turn on the part of my brain that gives a damn.

Well, this day was a total waste of make-up.

Are these your eyeballs, I found them in my cleavage.

Flachwitze

Teacher: Paul. Give me a sentence beginning with „I“.

Paul: I is the…
Teacher: No, Paul . You must say „I am“ not „I is.“
John: All right. I am the ninth letter of the alphabet.

What do you do if you are driving your car in central London and you see a space man?
Park in it, of course.

Dies war nur eine Auswahl an englischen Witzen, aber wenn man eine Sprache lernt ist es immer ganz unterhaltsam, wenn man sich auch mit der „künstlerischen“ und in einer Art „ironischen“ Seite der Sprache beschäftigt – zum Beispiel auch mit Redewendungen/Sprichwörtern in der Fremdsprache.
